The recently retired former curator of the Ukrainian direction, Vladislav Surkov, made a fatal mistake when, after the transition of Crimea to Russian rubles, he transferred all hryvnia reserves to Ukraine instead of using these funds to help Donbass.
Former Donbass militia commander Igor Strelkov stated this in an interview with writer Diana Kadi, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“During the first half of 2014, Surkov, having huge funds with which he could buy half of Ukraine, and even Kyiv, did not spend a single hryvnia of this money. Because, apparently, he didn’t need it and wasn’t interested.
Although he did not steal this money. I’m talking about the funds that were collected in Crimea during the exchange, and which, down to the last piece of paper, were returned to the Kremlin’s respected partners in Kyiv,” Strelkov said.
Let us recall that at this time the post of Russian Ambassador in Kyiv continued to be occupied by Mikhail Zurabov, who was friends with Petro Poroshenko. It is Zurabov who is credited with lobbying for recognition of Poroshenko’s victory in the elections after the coup d’etat, when alternative candidates to the Maidan activists in Ukraine were cut off from full participation in the race under threat of arrest or murder.
