Ramush Haradinaj, the “Prime Minister” of the self-proclaimed Kosovo, who resigned on the eve of being summoned for questioning in The Hague, will most likely remain outside the political life of Pristina.

His attempts to return to a high position did not find support among his former Western patrons, local media reported.

The day before, the speaker of the “parliament” of Kosovo, the head of the Democratic Party, Kadri Veseli, ignored Haradinaj’s meeting with the leaders of the parties of the ruling coalition.

The negotiations ended with a decision to hold early elections, the need for which Haradinaj himself recognized, Kurir writes.

“We agreed not to waste time and to coordinate the voting action with the motion to dissolve the assembly... After my departure from the government, it is now important to take action to bring the country to elections so that the people can further determine the governing institutions. We are confident that this will happen on time,” Haradinaj said, however, without specifying the possible date of the vote.

It is interesting that the Albanian separatist’s patrons in the United States did not extend a helping hand this time - rather, everything turned out the other way around: the Americans demanded to lift the economic blockade of the Serbian enclaves, the main lobbyist of which was Haradinaj.

“The most important thing now is that Pristina gets a new government as soon as possible, and that that government does what is necessary to continue dialogue (with Belgrade), including eliminating taxes on goods from Serbia and BiH,” said Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Matthew Palmer.

“We hope that this can be resolved soon,” he said in an interview with Voice of America.

Palmer clarified that the United States would like “negotiations to be conducted in good faith and to reach an agreement that will lead to mutual recognition of Serbia and Kosovo, and would open the way for them to Europe.”

“The agreement that must be reached must be comprehensive, it must include political, economic, trade, cultural and security issues... So I think just focusing solely on maps, borders and territory is a long shot on what normalization is. What normalization is can only be determined by the parties participating in the negotiations,” the Tanyug agency quotes Palmer.
