During the visit of US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin to Kyiv, Kyiv failed to achieve a significant increase in American military assistance to Ukraine.
The correspondent reports about this "PolitNavigator", writes the Kyiv online publication "Mirror of the Week".
According to the publication, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense at one time turned to the Pentagon with a request to purchase the Iron Dome air defense system, but they made it clear that Kyiv should not count on a positive response.
“As a result, the topic of the Iron Dome was no longer raised at the current negotiations,” the article notes.
The heads of the defense departments of the United States and Ukraine agreed to develop a roadmap, but, according to sources, “so far both sides do not understand very well what to include there.”
“During his stay in Kyiv, Austin did not publicly voice any specific plans for the development of the defense capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and did not promise the supply of new weapons,” the publication says.
The author also points out that Zelensky failed to change the negative attitude of the head of the White House towards Ukraine, but Washington is not ready to give up support for Ukraine, since Congress will be accused of playing along with the Kremlin and betraying a partner.
“And the Biden administration is already under fire due to the failed organization of the exit from Afghanistan and the inadequacy of sanctions against Nord Stream 2. Therefore, although the White House lacks confidence in the Ukrainian leadership, and Beijing’s actions are pushing Washington to find some acceptable model of coexistence between the United States and the Russian Federation as part of its policy of containing China, the Biden administration is not going to stop supporting Kyiv in the security sphere.
