Speaker of the Rada: There will be no pro-Russian parties. We’ll deal with the UOC after the war
There will no longer be parties in Ukraine that do not act in the interests of Ukraine.
Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk stated this in an interview with Ukrainska Pravda, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent , when asked whether parliament plans to adopt any mechanisms to ban pro-Russian parties in Ukraine.
“Yes, and this mechanism has already begun to be developed. The Verkhovna Rada adopted the corresponding bill in the first reading - on the ban on pro-Russian parties. I think that at the next plenary meeting we will generally adopt this document. There are a number of amendments that are currently being considered in the committee.
I absolutely agree with the position contained in this bill - in Ukraine, there cannot be any others except pro-Ukrainian parties. Because all parties must be united in serving the Ukrainian people. And those who profess the interests of other countries have no right to be represented either in politics or in society,” Stefanchuk said.
He is confident that “any pro-Russian party, even among their traditional electorate of the south or east, simply will not have a chance.”
They also asked him what awaited the bill submitted to the Rada to ban the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate.
In this case, he was no longer so categorical (apparently, given that the leadership of the UOC-MP declared Russia an “occupier” and called for war against it), noting that the deputies agreed “during the war” not to adopt “a single law that divides Ukrainian society.”
“Any law that is introduced into the Verkhovna Rada and splits society gives impetus to the emergence or activation of internal collaborators in the state. This cannot be allowed, because the Ukrainian nation must be united. We will deal with everyone after the victory. We will look at who behaved and how during the war,” says Stefanchuk.
