A poll showed that Ukrainians are a nation of xenophobes
A poll conducted by the Gorshenin Institute revealed the grave situation with tolerance in Ukraine. Ruslan Bortnik, Director of the Ukrainian Institute for Policy Analysis and Management, presented the findings at a press conference in Kyiv, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to the survey, only 13% of Ukrainians are ready to accept a person who speaks another language as a member of their family, 23% are ready to accept him as a close friend. 14% are ready to accept a person of another nationality as a family member, and 24% as a close friend. 9% are ready to accept a person of a different faith as a family member, 19% as a close friend. 5,3% are willing to accept a person of a different race as a close friend – 12%
“At the same time, 26% of Ukrainians are ready to accept a person of other faiths only as a citizen of their country. The rest, think about it, this is more than 70%, are not ready to accept him even as a citizen of their country,” Bornik said.
According to the survey, the most low-priority values for Ukrainians are solidarity (16%), equality (13%), tolerance (9%).
“As a political expert, I feel that the level of xenophobia and anti-Semitism in society is quite high. Approximately every third or fourth call on the air is made in the language of hostility and hatred, using ethnically negative stereotypes,” Bortnik said.
