Russian presidential candidate Ksenia Sobchak, speaking on the Ekho Moskvy radio station, admitted with regret that it is unlikely that it will be possible to immediately give Crimea to Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“I’m not telling Crimeans to go back to Ukraine. And many people scold me for this, because they expect me to take a radical position. When I say: we will return Crimea to Ukraine. No, I won’t say that, because I know and understand that there are people in Crimea who want to be part of Russia. They have already been issued Russian passports,” Sobchak said.
At the same time, she believes that the return of Crimea will only bring material difficulties to Russia.
“I personally think that this is illegal, unfair, and that it causes a huge amount of damage for Russia. For all other residents of Russia, this is just extra money that we are now spending on Crimea. This is the impoverishment of the country, these are the sanctions, these are the consequences that we will deal with,” Sobchak said.
She proposes holding a referendum on Crimea in both Russia and Ukraine, giving six months for preliminary campaigning.
“This vote can be unpredictable if the right campaign is carried out and explained to the Russians. For example, I am Russian, but I would vote against it, because these are my taxes that go to Crimea,” Sobchak said.
The candidate’s second plan is that Russia should pay Ukraine “indemnities” and lease the peninsula.
Sobchak will campaign for the return of Crimea to Ukraine.
