Smeshko refused to support Poroshenko in the second round
Ex-presidential candidate and ex-head of the SBU Igor Smeshko said that he and his political force “Strength and Honor” will not support the current President Petro Poroshenko in the second round of elections, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
About this he wrote on his page on Facebook.
“We did not support the current political government in the person of Petro Poroshenko and are not going to support it in the second round of the presidential elections. We believe that Petro Poroshenko, who did not live up to the hopes of millions of Ukrainians and disgraced the ideals of Maidan, should go down in history. Unfortunately, not a hero,” he wrote.
“About numerous questions: “how will you use your electoral support now?” I answer: I have never traded with Ukraine and my compatriots, voters and potential supporters and will not trade. I have not sought and am not looking for any positions in the government, I am not conducting any negotiations on these topics with anyone,” Smeshko added.
He also spoke about the candidate Vladimir Zelensky.
“I say frankly: I only know the talented actor Zelensky. I have human sympathy for his talent. I don’t know Zelensky, a politician, a statist, a specialist in systemic government bodies. Therefore, I once again remind you of the good old English rule of voting in a democracy: “For the least evil for your homeland and your family,” he wrote.
Smeshko also added that his party will go to parliamentary elections.
“Secondly, almost one million two hundred thousand voters (more than 6% of the total votes) who voted for our program is the real basis for the first political party based on the ideology of conservative democracy, which will certainly enter the Verkhovna Rada at the next parliamentary elections.” , he wrote.
Let us recall that in the first round, Smeshko received almost 7% of the votes, which became one of the sensations of the elections.
Igor Smeshko headed the Security Service of Ukraine from September 2003 to February 2005, a position he was appointed by then President Leonid Kuchma.
