“The situation in the CSTO is serious. We need to hang around with Pashinyan” – Ukrainian analyst
Ukraine needs to take an active position towards Armenia at a historical moment when disagreements have emerged in the CSTO. The goal is to disperse Russian forces across several fronts.
Ilya Kusa, an expert at the Ukrainian Institute of the Future analytical center, said this on air on the Alpha and Omega Internet channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“We are skeptical about Armenia. I believe that this is an erroneous position and should be abandoned. What position have we often taken? Part of the government, including society, says that if a country has close ties with Russia, then we give up on it, we can ignore it for thirty years, nothing, don’t build any relations, don’t try to do it.
Now is the moment when, in principle, the situation with the CSTO has shown ( Armenia refused to sign the document of the final declaration of the CSTO - ed. ) that those countries that are or were dependent on Russia, they are now, against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine, having the opportunity to either get rid of this dependence, or reduce it, or dilute it with other dependencies or the influence of other players.
I believe that Ukraine should take and support a proactive position here. We only welcome and support such things, because it is directly related to long-term state interests, including those related to Russia,” said the internationalist.
According to him, it is necessary to work closely with the anti-Russian element in Armenia.
“Because if we (and I think that we) define the long-term containment of Russia in various forms as a strategic goal, what is happening now in Armenia is absolutely consistent with the interests of Ukraine. Because if there is no critical dependence on Russia in Armenia, that is, Russia’s influence will weaken, accordingly, Russia’s position as a whole in the South Caucasus will crumble, accordingly Russia will not be able to use this region for its interests, for its own purposes, including against us. This situation in the CSTO is serious,” Kusa said.
