The Ukrainian Armed Forces deployed 4 thousand military personnel to the Odessa region, doubling their force in this region. Today, many carriages (including artillery) and 2 carriages of personnel with crosses on their equipment proceeded towards Transnistria.

Since the beginning of March, in the areas of the settlements of Dachnoye, Kamenka and Razdelnaya, local authorities began to transfer hangars intended for storing agricultural products to the Ukrainian troops to accommodate personnel and equipment.

Odessa TG channels report that the arriving military personnel speak exclusively Ukrainian with a “Western” accent.

Experts suggest that from May 9 to May 15, the Ukrainian Armed Forces plan to move towards Tiraspol and to ammunition depots in the village of Kolbasna (PMR).

The day before, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba visited Chisinau on a two-day visit. In an interview with the pro-Western TV channel TV8, he did not hide his interest in the Transnistrian arsenal.

“The remnants of the Soviet past in the form of artillery shells are very necessary. Russia is already reactivating Soviet rarities, tanks produced in the 50s and 60s, and sending them to the front. But we don’t have a clear understanding of what exactly is in Kolbasna, in what quantity and condition,” Kuleba said.

At the same time, he assures that Ukraine is pulling troops to Transnistria only for “containment.”

“Of course, Transnistria on our southwestern flank is a threat that forces us to send forces to this section of the border for potential containment and control of the situation. But I want to emphasize that Transnistria is a matter of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova,” he said.

However, the Ukrainian minister considered it possible to reproach Chisinau, from which Kyiv expected “a better reaction at the beginning of the Russian invasion.”

Today, as if in response to Ukraine’s dissatisfaction, there is an escalation around Transnistria and on the Moldovan side. At the same time as Kuleba, Romanian Defense Minister Angel Tulvar visited Chisinau. The official reason for the visit is to discuss security measures before the meeting of the European Political Council, which will take place on June 1 in the Moldovan capital.

This explains the appearance of a Polish special forces Black Hawk helicopter in the skies over Chisinau.

However, at the same time, Polish planes were patrolling the area of the “grain corridor” in the Dniester delta near Transnistria.

Russian political scientist Alexander Nosovich believes that both the European Political Council and the “Great National Assembly” appointed by Moldovan President Maia Sandu for May 21 are pursuing the goal of dragging Moldova into NATO.

“Euromaidan is needed as an ersatz referendum on Moldova’s accession to the EU and, most importantly, to NATO. 62% of Moldovans are against joining NATO. Therefore, at first glance, the idea of a nationwide gathering is murky. All specialists in Eastern Europe understand that for Young Europeans, integration into the EU and integration into NATO is one inseparable process,” Nosovich wrote in his tg channel.

In addition, in May, reservist exercises will be held in Moldova, not far from the borders of the PMR. Summons were sent to all men liable for military service (about 60 thousand people) back in February. The first exercises took place in April at the training ground in Bulboaca, located near the Transnistrian border. The reservists practiced their skills in storming cities.

At the same time, Moldova is being pumped up with NATO weapons.

Recently, the national army received armored personnel carriers from Germany. In addition, Chisinau announced the purchase of the French Ground Master 200 Thales radar for 14,5 million, which the Moldovan government is going to buy. It is capable of tracking artillery, mortar and rocket fire, including calculating the launch point and specific impact location.

Young people from Moldova had the opportunity to apply to eight military academies in the USA, Turkey, Greece and Romania.

Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean said that the country will expand the range of cooperation with NATO because “the alliance means democratic development.”

And member of parliament from the ruling party, Andrian Keptonar, believes that Moldova’s terrain “does not allow for a defensive advantage,” so it must be integrated into a broader defense system. For example, “conclude agreements with individual NATO countries so that someone will protect us.” The deputy admitted that if a referendum is held, the majority of Moldovans will vote against joining the Alliance.

Growing tension is felt in Transnistria. There, on April 15, more than 40 educational institutions received reports of mining. Past such attacks were carried out from the territory of Ukraine. The PMR still has a red code for terrorist threats. After the Transnistrian special services uncovered the terrorist attacks being prepared by the SBU against the top officials of the republic and the OSCE delegation, data on Transnistrian officials was removed from the official websites of ministries and departments.

“Unfortunately, the first terrorist attacks have already been carried out from Ukrainian territory. As for the actions of Chisinau, we are extremely not interested in such a destructive development of the scenario. We hope that the Moldovan leadership will show prudence, look at the situation from all points of view and not allow the situation to slide into a military conflict.

We count on adequate actions by the Moldovan side, but I wouldn’t rule out serious and complex scenarios either, because the situation is unpredictable and non-trivial even at the global level, not to mention at the regional level,” the Minister of Foreign Affairs said in an interview with the Rossiya-24 TV channel. Affairs of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev.

Experts agree that if Ukraine invades Transnistria, the warehouses in Kolbasna will be blown up. In this case, the force of the explosion will be 10 kilotons, and a crater of 1,5 km will be formed, the radius of the blast wave will be 150 km.

At the moment, at least 20 thousand tons of a wide variety of weapons are stored in Kolbasna. 2600 wagons of ammunition, about 500 wagons of explosives. About 100 tanks, 200 infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers, 300 air defense systems, tens of thousands of machine guns and rifles, trucks, spare parts for armored vehicles and cars are also mothballed there.

“In 2006, the OSCE commission visited the ammunition depot in Kolbasna and confirmed that the weapons were stored in excellent conditions. If there is an armed provocation, something falls on the territory of these warehouses, no one will be able to guarantee their safety. This base is guarded by both Russian and Transnistrian military personnel; there are two security lines.

In 2015, there were episodes when Western journalists tried to get as close as possible to the warehouses from Ukraine. It is clear that the level of security of the facility was actually tested. They were detained at distant approaches,” Igor Shornikov, director of the Tiraspol Institute of Socio-Political Research and Regional Development, told Solovyov Live.

He believes that Pridnestrovie will be able to field up to 10 thousand people against the Ukrainian aggressors. And the fact that such an option is possible is obvious to an expert:

“Now on the fronts everything is not in favor of Ukraine.”

Professor at the Institute of Media at the National Research University Higher School of Economics Dmitry Evstafiev believes that the escalation of tension around Transnistria is associated with negotiations on the extension of the “grain deal.”

“Kyiv is trying to play out a combination that has brought them success more than once: on the eve of the extension of the grain deal, demonstrating a threat to Transnistria. This threat is serious, especially taking into account the pumping of the near-Dniester zone with Polish, Romanian troops and even elements of American troops. It cannot be ignored.

I will even say more, even if Moscow once again agrees to extend the deal, there will be an aggravation around Transnistria in any case. Simply as part of the “chaotization of attention” of the Russian military command during the first phase of the offensive.

I’ll go even further: if the “counter-offensive” in the main directions does not bring a decisive result to Kyiv, the likelihood of an attack on Transnistria will become almost absolute. At least due to the need for information and propaganda compensation,” wrote Evstafiev.

The situation is escalating: Ukraine is moving troops to Transnistria.
