The Transnistrian authorities despaired of waiting for the Russian Sputnik V vaccine against coronavirus infection and launched the vaccination campaign with Western vaccines received as part of Romanian aid to Moldova.

“The Chief Sanitary Doctor, citing the opinion of international experts (including WHO representatives), considers the use of AstraZeneca possible. This vaccine is known to already be available. It is proposed to start vaccination on Monday. The Pfizer shipment should also arrive soon. It is allocated to us through the World Health Organization,” Krasnoselsky wrote.

Previously, he stated that Pridnestrovians would not be vaccinated with AstraZeneca in the hope of receiving Sputnik V, however, according to him, the Moldovan authorities are preventing the supply of the Russian vaccine.

“There are serious difficulties with our Moldovan “colleagues,” if you can call them that under the circumstances. The Moldovan side has included bureaucratic mechanisms that impede the supply of Russian vaccines to Transnistria. Documentary confirmation of this is the active correspondence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR with his Moldovan counterparts. Work is underway. We hope that the political overlay will be removed from this purely humanitarian issue, and we will be given the opportunity to ensure the safety of the residents of Transnistria,” Krasnoselsky wrote.

Yesterday, the Supreme Council of Transnistria appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin with a request to “provide assistance in saving the lives of compatriots” and facilitate the speedy delivery of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine to the republic.
The situation in the republic is critical. Coronavirus hospitals are 97% full, the increase in cases is twice as high as the number of recovered people.
