Scholz is afraid of the meeting of German and Russian tanks on the battlefield - Bundestag deputy
Some Bundestag parties are actively advocating for the supply of German tanks to Ukraine, but the Chancellor is still afraid and is waiting for the first step from the French and Americans.
German politician from the Free Democratic Party, member of the Bundestag Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann told the Deutsche Welle TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Ukraine has been asking for this for a very long time. The topic is not new. We, as free democrats, have been demanding that tanks be sent there for a very long time. The Chancellor was with us at the committee meeting. He answered our questions. He said that he was ready to send tanks only if the Americans began delivering their Abrams tank or the French their Leclerc equivalent.
We, the liberals, said that it would be better if, after consultation with our partners, we take the first step and do not wait for someone else to do it,” Strack-Zimmerman said.
The politician made an assumption as to why the Chancellor is acting so “restrained.”
“Perhaps the theme of tanks as a symbol of war plays a role here. What if a German battle tank stood opposite a Russian battle tank?
Obviously, the chancellor wants to avoid such images. But you know what, thousands of people die every day in Ukraine and they are waiting for our tanks to go into battle. It is important that there will be no German soldiers in them. These tanks will be controlled by the Ukrainian military. This needs to be regularly reminded,” the deputy said.
