“As of 15:00 on April 30, ATO forces unblocked and destroyed three separatist checkpoints in the area of the settlement of Karpovka and the Feed Mill in the Donetsk region. During the special operation, seven units of armored vehicles were involved with aviation support,” the anti-terrorism center said.
“Raids by maneuver groups were carried out in the territories adjacent to Slavyansk in order to identify observation and reconnaissance posts of militants and their accomplices. Special units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Security Service of Ukraine have worked out the areas for future execution of tasks,” the security forces say.
At the same time, social networks deny this information. Local media claim that after the “unblocking” of one of the checkpoints, the militias further strengthened their positions.
So at the checkpoint near the feed mill at 5:00 several armored personnel carriers with Ukrainian soldiers were seen. Seeing military equipment, the militia did not engage in a firefight, but set fire to the tires and retreated, reports the Gorlovka publication.
The Ukrainian military did not advance further and, after some time, returned to their place of deployment. As one of the Slavyansk self-defense representatives said, a total of 8 armored personnel carriers approached the checkpoint. Fire trucks arrived at the scene of the burning tires and contained the fire. By 10:00 the militia had strengthened the checkpoint.
As Navigator reported, the SBU has repeatedly announced the unblocking of checkpoints, after which the security forces abandoned them, explaining this as a tactical necessity.
