SBU officers detained and expelled from Ukraine journalist Pavel Karnazytsky, who moved from Belarus to Kyiv in the 1990s. In Ukraine, Karnazytsky ran the Glavnovosti website, which repeatedly criticized the regime of Petro Poroshenko for putting pressure on opposition media and clergy of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate.

“This afternoon he was detained by SBU officers, who took him away in an unknown direction... He was forbidden to talk to me, the only thing he managed to tell me was that he was currently being deported from Ukraine to Belarus, where, as I understand it, he will be detained! Let me remind you that Pavel Karnazytsky was forced to leave Belarus due to political persecution of him as a journalist, and since the late 90s he has lived in Ukraine!” – the journalist’s lawyer Andrei Domansky wrote on Facebook.

The press service of the SBU confirmed the expulsion of Karnazytsky.

“The Security Service of Ukraine blocked the destructive activities of a citizen of the Republic of Belarus, Pavel Karnazytsky, who spread anti-Ukrainian propaganda on the territory of our state. Security service operatives established that a foreigner who lived in Ukraine illegally was publicly disseminating fake information. In particular, during speeches on some television channels, he questioned the internationally recognized evidence of the presence of troops of the aggressor country in the temporarily occupied territories of our state. Karnazytsky also repeatedly published anti-Ukrainian materials on media resources controlled by the terrorist organizations “DPR” and “LPR”. SBU Chairman Vasily Gritsak noted that after the introduction of restrictions on the entry of Russian citizens into Ukraine, the Russian special services are increasingly involving foreigners in provocations,” the SBU press service said in a statement.

Karnazytsky is banned from entering Ukraine for three years, the Ukrainian intelligence service added.

The journalist's lawyer emphasized that we are talking about lawlessness, since there was no court decision that would prove the anti-Ukrainian activities of the client.

“Unfortunately, as his lawyer, I cannot remember the moment: when suspicion or indictment was brought against him, and when the courts of Ukraine passed a guilty verdict that entered into legal force!

PS Tell me, are the norms of the Constitution of Ukraine not valid? We have no right to legal assistance, and tomorrow any objectionable journalist or public figure could be expelled from the country, or maybe because everything previously “failed,” Domansky is indignant.
