Europe is tired of Ukraine and the conflict in Donbass and believes that Ukraine should postpone joining NATO. Additionally, Biden will take a different approach to Ukraine than Trump did.
German political scientist Alexander Rahr stated this on the NASH TV channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“There is a certain fatigue regarding Ukraine and everything that is happening with the conflict in Donbass. Secondly, don’t forget that we have, in principle, a global crisis, coronavirus, and the problems here – in Germany, in France, in Europe – are so big that everyone is now working on solving economic, social and medical problems here. Therefore, there is no time for problems in Donbass.
I would say that it is necessary at all costs now to actually hold a meeting in the Normandy format and then resume or adjust the Minsk agreements. I hope it happens in 2021, hopefully not too late.
As for the position of Germany and France, of course, they will be closely watching what new foreign policy the Biden administration will pursue. It is clear that she will have a different approach to Ukraine than Trump. Trump simply didn’t care about Ukraine... well, he didn’t give a damn, but still, he had other problems.
Biden will have a different position. I don’t think he will resume his previous idea of supplying weapons to Ukraine in order to prolong the war, but his agenda is human rights.
If Ukraine freezes its entry into NATO for 25 years and, perhaps, longer, this will defuse the situation. And this idea will receive support in Germany and France,” the political scientist said.
