Russia will not make concessions on Donbass in negotiations with the United States, since Washington, sensing Moscow’s weakness, may begin to make claims regarding Crimea.
Alexander Gushchin, associate professor at the Russian State University for the Humanities, writes about this in Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
“Serious concessions on this issue on a unilateral basis can only lead to increased pressure and to the fact that hotheads in the American leadership, of which there are more and more, will again raise the stakes and roll out demands not only for Crimea (this issue, judging by the reaction of the world media for the construction of a bridge, has been updated again), but also to reformat the entire Russian foreign policy,” notes the author.
He predicts that the conflict in Ukraine will continue for a long time and will smolder, since the United States “is not going to abandon the policy of pressure.”
“The United States is interested in continuing the slow squeeze of Russia. Treating Ukraine as their outpost and not wanting to give it up, they are actually ready for a frozen or smoldering conflict,” the publication says.
“Russia’s proactive endurance in the game for a long time is probably without alternative,” the author also notes.
