Alexander Lukashenko still strives, while maintaining a “multi-vector approach,” to receive from Russia more trade preferences and other concessions than the internal regions of the Russian Federation.

According to him, Russia will not repeat the mistake of the USSR, when national republics were supported at the expense of the RSFSR.
“We are not interested in Belarusian sovereignty, from any side, you understand this, we are not obliged to guarantee it, the Constitution of the Russian Federation does not contain the line: “We are the guarantors of Belarusian sovereignty,” and we will never be guarantors.
And in matters of federation or confederation, Russia will probably now abandon a confederation based on the principle of the USSR, where national republics were maintained at the expense of the Russian Federation.
