Russian peacekeepers began clearing Kharkov, moving from north to south. So far, the fighting is taking place on the outskirts of the city in “dormitory” areas. Many local residents spent last night in shelters.
Former DPR Defense Minister Igor Strelkov believes that the capture of Kharkov will not be easy.
“Since the enemy has not been subjected to preemptive strikes, has had time to prepare, has the support of a considerable part of the population and is ready to fight,” he writes, explaining that the “pace of further offensive in the first place” depends on the success and speed of the operation.
Interestingly, the day before Russian military personnel also entered the city of Kupyansk in the Kharkov region, and the local leadership began negotiations.
The mayor of Kupyansk, Gennady Matsegora, held negotiations with Russian peacekeepers, who stated that they were only interested in public order.
“Now they are moving around the city, accompanied by police officers. There are no Armed Forces of Ukraine on the territory of our community,” the message says.
