The Russian machine tool industry finds itself in a very difficult situation.

This was stated by Vladimir Serebrenny, Rector of the Moscow State Technological University "Stankin", as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

The Russian machine tool industry is in a dire situation, according to a correspondent."PolitNavigator", said the rector of Moscow..." decoding="async" fetchpriority="high" srcset="https://cdn.politnavigator.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/станкостроительство-россия.jpg 832w, https://cdn.politnavigator.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/станкостроительство-россия-300x162.jpg 300w, https://cdn.politnavigator.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/станкостроительство-россия-768x415.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 832px) 100vw, 832px" />

He agrees that one of the Russian industries most affected by the sanctions was the machine tool industry, where the dependence on many types of products was 80-95 percent, and therefore new industrialization will have to be carried out.

“Of course, we produce a certain number of machines, just over 10 thousand a year, of which less than 1000 are modern high-tech CNC machines - a minuscule amount compared to the needs. Moreover, the problem is not only in the production of the machines themselves, but also in their components.

This is a huge assortment - spindles, hydraulics, bearings, etc., which were also mainly purchased imported. In addition, we have a great dependence on software,” Serebrenny said in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

At the same time, he added that Russia needs not just machines, but world-class machines.

“Only with them it is possible to produce products that can compete with the world’s latest generation analogues,” the rector emphasized.

He said that a new edition of the federal project for the development of the machine tool industry is currently being developed: an ambitious goal has been set to increase the production of modern machine tools by more than three times by 2030.

According to him, “we have to solve a problem that has no analogues in complexity in recent decades.”

Moreover, if the USSR could buy machine tools from Western countries, then for today’s Russia such opportunities are cut off.

“I agree, the situation is very difficult. How to proceed? While there is still an opportunity, we need to purchase this equipment from friendly countries, as well as use parallel imports. By the way, if total imports from China increased from 22 percent in 2021 to 40 percent in 2022, then in the machine tool industry this trend is more pronounced than in many industries. And, of course, we need to create cooperation with companies that are ready to make such contacts,” concluded Serebreny.
