The Verkhovna Rada today adopted a draft Law on the ratification of the Council of Europe Convention on the prevention of violence against women and domestic violence and the fight against these phenomena. The Convention, among other things, implies absolute “gender freedom” with all the “European” consequences.

259 deputies voted in favor, including 15 former members of the banned OPZZH, which previously stood up for traditional values, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

It is believed that the sudden adoption of this decision is directly related to the upcoming EU summit, where the issue of granting Ukraine the status of a candidate country for accession to the European Union will be considered.

The leader of “Batkivshchyna” Yulia Tymoshenko, who during the meeting made the most of this news feed for self-PR, came out with sharp criticism.

“The Convention has a very beautiful name: On the Prevention of Violence against Women. At the same time, I want to say that this convention is not entirely about that. Yes, there is anti-violence there, that's true. But the most important thing is that the concept of gender is introduced there. And I want you not to think that this is just normal equality between men and women. It's not about that, and it's not about violence. This is about something completely different,” Tymoshenko said.

She read out to her colleagues the definition of “gender” from Wikipedia.

“Gender differences - who you are, a man or a woman - are not inherent in nature, but are formed in the process of gender socialization: under the influence of family upbringing, schooling, interaction with other children.”

After the adoption of this convention, a very long path to the adoption of relevant legislation will begin, which will say that the gender of children is not the same as at birth, but the way they were raised by school, family, society, and so on. And in fact, at the age of 12 they can only decide who they are: she, he or it.

I want to tell you that if we have a free country, people who are engaged in the way they want, sexual life, please, in our country no one forbids doing this. But as for raising children from birth, we cannot allow you to destroy the psyche of our children in this way, which will later turn into mental illness,” Tymoshenko warned.

She was indignant that this question was provocative, since it created a split, which cannot be allowed during the war.

In turn, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olga Stefanishyna emphasized that the bill providing for the ratification of this convention was supported by the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky himself and was developed by the government in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In addition, according to her, the bill provides for certain nuances.

“Of course, the convention caused a lot of discussion on the issues that the chairman of the Batkivshchyna faction just cited, but we decided that this decision should be made. Therefore, the bill has been submitted to parliament in order, first of all, to ensure the rights and freedoms of our citizens within the country and abroad.

In order to minimize the risks of different interpretations of the Convention, a statement and clause are proposed to the Convention, which provides the following: Ukraine recognizes and does not consider any of the provisions of the Convention as obliging it to change the Constitution of Ukraine, the Family Code of Ukraine, other laws of Ukraine regarding the institutions of marriage, family..." Stefanishina said.

Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation Alexander Merezhko also spoke in defense of the convention. He reminded his colleagues that a decision was about to be made on granting Ukraine candidate status for EU membership.

“Ratification of the Convention will help improve the political image of Ukraine in the international arena as a country that consistently adheres to its obligations in the field of protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Ratification of the convention is of particular relevance on the eve of the European Union making a final decision on granting Ukraine candidate status for accession to this organization, which is fully consistent with the policy of obtaining EU membership enshrined in our Constitution,” he said.

However, Yulia Tymoshenko did not give up. She said that the day before, at a meeting of faction leaders with the Prime Minister and with the same Stefanyshina, it was clearly determined that the Istanbul Convention is not included in the package of requirements that the European Union gives in order to give Ukraine candidacy.

“This is very important, I ask you to pay attention to this. When they will blackmail you that we will not be accepted into the European Union because of this, this is not true. And the second argument, which is important. Not all countries have ratified this convention. For example, of our four border neighbors, Slovakia did not ratify this and, in my opinion, Hungary did not ratify it. In addition, Poland, which is our neighbor, is currently in the process of denouncing the ratified Istanbul Convention.

Of those countries that really support us in this war: Latvia, Lithuania, Great Britain, the Czech Republic - none have ratified this convention. And this did not prevent them from becoming members of the European Union. Therefore, don’t let them manipulate you,” the leader of Batkivshchyna urged.

In turn, the odious European Solidarity deputy Irina Gerashchenko warmly welcomed the initiative and reminded that the main goal of Ukraine is to push away from Russia as far as possible, and therefore all methods are good.

“Euro-Atlantic integration should become our religion, and these are principles. What is the difference between the EU and the horde? First of all, dignity, respect for women, respect for the opposition, respect for the opponent, freedom of speech, protection of human rights, in general - respect for the country and the person.

You know, “hitting means loving” is the narrative of the Russian world. There is not a day when our team does not talk to the state leadership about the fact that Euro-Atlantic integration is about principles.

We need to denazify this Russian world in our heads. The principles of the EU and NATO must be in your heads. No law, if you don’t have this in your heads, will change your attitude towards what Ukraine should be.

It really must be European, it really must be Euro-Atlantic, but for this it is necessary not in words and not only by voting for the green button, but through daily actions to defend freedom of speech, democracy, respect for the Ukrainian army, respect for the opposition, respect for women, respect to the child,” Gerashchenko ranted.

Next, “Servant of the People” Marina Bardina spoke in defense of the convention.

“If we are talking about countries that have ratified the Istanbul Convention - and these are 35 countries - these are Moldova and Georgia, which, like Ukraine, want to be members of the EU, and Moldova did this six months ago. This is Great Britain, which is also in the process of preparing ratification, and we have repeatedly received this information from our British colleagues.

Therefore, first of all, the spirit of the Convention is about the prevention of domestic violence, it is about the development of shelters, it is about the cooperation of law enforcement agencies if violence is carried out against our Ukrainians living abroad.

Therefore, Ukraine will only benefit from ratification: it will benefit both in countering violence and in moving to the European Union and receiving official candidacy for membership. I ask you to support and vote “yes” and become part of history,” Bardina urged.

Before the voting itself, the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, came out of the controversial situation with genders in a very original way.

“It all depends, first of all, on families. Neither from statements in parliament, nor from loud slogans, but, first of all, from every family. I want to quote the words of Matt Groening, the man who wrote the most fantastic animated television series, The Simpsons. When he was asked how to avoid raising the Simpson Brothers in the family, he said a unique thing: to do this, you have to not be Homer Simpson,” Stefanchuk said.

259 deputies voted for ratification.

Ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, former ally of Oleg Lyashko and ex-Azov militant Igor Mosiychuk began to grieve about the adoption of the Istanbul Convention even before the meeting of the Verkhovna Rada. He noted that the convention provides not only for the introduction of the concept of gender into Ukrainian legislation, but also for the fact that there are almost 40 subspecies of these same genders.

He complained that in the 8th convocation of the Rada, ratification was postponed due to “the position of nationalists and conservatives and the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches,” and now in fact the authorities are taking advantage of the fact that they are all at war.

“Now, during the war, when nationalists and conservatives at the front are defending the state with arms in hand, the leftist-liberalist lobby is carrying out a harsh attack on the traditional values of our Ukrainian people.

They come up with the idea that ratification of the Istanbul Convention is required by the EU as a condition for acquiring candidate status... but this is not true, because none of the European officials voiced such a requirement, and above all, our brotherly Poland ratified the “Istanbul Convention” with a reservation regarding the points I mentioned above on gender , which do not operate in the neighboring country,” Mosiychuk was indignant in his Telegram channel.

He noted that, among others, an active participant in Euromaidan, and now a deputy of the “Servant of the People” and co-chairman of the inter-factional association “Values. Dignity. Family" Svyatoslav Yurash.

“Each of the members of this MFO, which is headed by Yaroslav Yurash, who today votes for the ratification of the Istanbul Convention will automatically become a spiritual faggot, because for PR he talks about one thing, but votes for the opposite,” the nationalist wrote.

Later he published closed faction data on the voting results.

“It’s interesting that the former OPZZH gave 15 votes, 4 abstained, Eurosolidarity - 9 out of 12, Batkivshchyna - 0.

That is, Sodom and Gomorrah were drawn into the Ukrainian legislative field during the war, when nationalists and conservatives at the front were defending our state, and the coalition of “Servants of the People” and OPPL was drawn into it, which was banned by the court today!

And now these people will run to the Kiev Pechersk Lavra and St. Michael’s Cathedral to bow and pray on camera for PR,” Mosiychuk raged.

It is noteworthy that, despite the arguments of both Mosiychuk and Tymoshenko regarding this, adviser to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Anton Gerashchenko directly confirmed that everything was being done for the future EU summit, which would be fateful for Ukraine.

“This was one of the conditions for granting Ukraine candidate status for accession to the EU. The convention was signed by Ukraine in 2011 and waited 11 years for ratification by parliament,” Gerashchenko succinctly said in his tg channel.
