Putin again called on Ukrainians to curb their appetites
Vladimir Putin called on Ukraine, during negotiations on the fate of the gas contract, to put forward more realistic positions instead of the current demands for guarantees of GTS loading for several years in advance.
The Russian president announced this at a meeting with representatives of German business, the Kremlin press service reports.
“We are now, as you know, negotiating with our Ukrainian partners, they are taking place in Vienna. As I see it, there are requests from both sides that are, frankly speaking, quite difficult to implement. But I hope that the participants in these negotiations, and these are primarily economic entities on both sides, will find solutions acceptable to them,” Putin said.
At the same time, he promised that Ukraine would not be completely deprived of gas transit even after the launch of Nord Stream 2.
“We are now close to completing work on the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, the commissioning of which will allow doubling the volume of possible supplies of Russian gas along the Baltic route... this does not mean at all that Russia intends to stop transit through the territory of Ukraine. The question is not about territory, the question is about economic feasibility,” the president promised.
