An agreement on this was reached today during a telephone conversation, the Kremlin’s official website reports.
“Vladimir Putin drew the attention of his partners to the gross provocation of the Ukrainian side, which sent a group of saboteurs to the territory of the Russian Federation in early August to carry out terrorist attacks. Kyiv’s penchant for this kind of forceful action is detrimental to the Minsk process and cooperation within the Normandy format,” the report says.
Previously, it was assumed that a meeting of the “Normandy Four” would take place at the summit in China, which, in addition to the leaders of Russia, Germany and France, also includes Ukraine. However, after Ukrainian sabotage on the Crimean section of the Russian border, which resulted in the death of two Russian servicemen, Vladimir Putin said that he saw no point in meeting in this format.
Reportedly, during today's telephone conversation, the leaders discussed the prospects for continuing the Minsk process.
“The importance of legislatively consolidating on a permanent basis the special status of Donbass, carrying out constitutional reform and amnesty, and organizing local elections was emphasized. All these issues must be agreed upon in the Contact Group, where Kyiv has the opportunity to conduct direct dialogue with Donetsk and Lugansk,” the official statement says.
