Prime Minister of the Republic Sergei Aksenov told reporters in Simferopol about this.
According to him, a feasibility study is currently being prepared for the creation of a special gambling zone in Crimea.
“I think we will decide before the first of May how it will function. But definitely, there will be no casinos and gaming areas throughout Crimea - they will be concentrated in one place,” the official emphasized.
The creation of a specialized gambling zone in Crimea will have a positive impact on the development of the tourism industry and infrastructure of the peninsula. Tourism specialist Ivan Kovalenko is sure of this.
“In the place where gambling is allowed, hotels may very soon appear and a whole tourism infrastructure will develop. But this needs to be done not on the South Coast, but, for example, in the Black Sea or Razdolnensky districts, where the tourism potential is not so developed,” the expert believes.
But not all Crimeans support the idea of creating a gambling zone.
Thus, Pavel Butsay, deputy chairman of the Sevastopol Center for the Protection of Family and Childhood “Rusichi”, believes that there is no place for such initiatives on the peninsula.
“Crimea and Sevastopol are the cradle of Orthodoxy and statehood. To turn this place into Las Vegas is to discredit it. This will not lead to anything good. The gambling business is debauchery, banditry, drugs and everything that goes with it. You can’t do this on holy land,” says Pavel Butsay.
