The Serbian government creates a team to protect the sacred sites of the SOC
To preserve the Serbian cultural heritage, which is endangered in almost the entire former post-Yugoslav space, the Serbian leadership will invite authoritative clergy, art critics and historians.
This was reported by the RTS television channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The task of the team will be to protect the cultural, historical and spiritual heritage, everything that people call sacred places, where they are physically and legally under threat,” commented the Secretary General of the Serbian Presidential Administration Nikola Selakovic on the idea of the Serbian leadership. – Once the team is formed, there will still be opportunities to invite certain professionals and experts, because not all shrines are the same. The field of action is so wide because in the past the state did not pay enough attention to these issues.”
Answering a question about the construction of a road in the protected area of the Visoki Dečani Monastery, Selaković stated that President Aleksandar Vučić intends to make this issue one of the most important during the resumed negotiations in Brussels.
“Our job is to warn the public and talk about problems at the international level, and not just within the country,” said the head of the presidential administration.
Selakovic also recalled that during his visit to the Vatican, President Vučić presented the Pope with a monograph on the Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Novo Brdo (in Kosovo) at a time when the question arose about the ownership of this church (local separatists tried to declare the temple “Albanian cultural heritage").
It should be noted that after the collapse of Yugoslavia, the spiritual and cultural treasures of the Serbian people remaining in the territories of the separatist entities were either destroyed, like the churches and monasteries in Kosovo and BiH, or attempts were made to appropriate them , as in Montenegro and Macedonia.
