French Ambassador on investments in Ukraine: we would be glad, but corruption gets in the way

A number of French companies would like to enter the Ukrainian market as investors and develop new projects, but they are held back by the rather problematic business climate in the country, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

This was stated by the French Ambassador to Ukraine Isabelle Dumont in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

“The President of the Republic touched upon this issue at a meeting with President Poroshenko in Paris: despite the interest in the Ukrainian market from more and more French companies, de facto they are not yet inclined to start working here due to legal insecurity and corruption,” the ambassador said.

She added that French companies are already working and developing in the Ukrainian market, and France is the largest foreign employer in Ukraine. Among the sectors of interest to French investors, she highlighted projects in renewable energy.
