Putin's message struck fear into Ukrainian experts

The director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management Ruslan Bortnik said this at a press conference in Kyiv, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent, according to whom, in Ukraine, the message of the President of the Russian Federation to the Federal Assembly remained underestimated.
The expert believes that the message was primarily intended for the domestic Russian audience and is related to the upcoming elections.
“But at the same time, militaristic messages, messages about unwillingness to give up any positions, including in the confrontation with the West, will certainly have dire consequences for the situation in Ukraine, which today is one of the fronts of the geopolitical confrontation between Russia and USA,” Bortnik emphasized.
According to him, in the second half of 2018, “a very dangerous period is coming for Ukraine,” when the World Cup ends and Putin becomes president for the fourth time.
“I don’t know whether Putin will go again, whether he can physically, because in six years he will be well over 70, like everyone in his immediate circle. Therefore, I think the main task of the next political cycle for Russia will be to solve the problem of Ukraine. Risks and pressure will increase. Whether the West will agree to raise rates is a big question,” the political scientist said.
