Poroshenko began persecuting the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate for the demarche of the Kyiv Metropolitan in the Verkhovna Rada
A group of deputies of the Poroshenko Bloc sent an appeal to Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and the leadership of the Ministry of Justice with a demand to respond to the incident on May 8, when the hierarchs of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate refused to stand in the Rada hall when Petro Poroshenko read out the names of ATO participants awarded the titles of “Heroes of Ukraine.”
Poroshenko's deputies announced this at a briefing on the sidelines of parliament.

According to them, the act of Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and other hierarchs in the presidential faction is regarded “as disrespect for the people defending the Motherland” and “provocative.”
As deputy Taras Batenko explained, Poroshenko’s supporters demand that the Ministry of Justice oblige the UOC to clearly indicate its connection with the Moscow Patriarchate in its statutory documents.
“The time has come to dot the i’s ,” he said, emphasizing that this way citizens will understand that the UOC “professes the idea of the Russian world.”
According to Petro Poroshenko’s deputies, the UOC should be responsible for the fact that Patriarch “Kirill blesses Putin for shedding blood in Ukraine, and the priests here bless mercenaries.”
Let us recall that Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev refused to stand during Poroshenko’s speech in the Rada as a sign of protest against the continuation of the military operation in Donbass, which the UOC has repeatedly called for to be stopped.
Poroshenko previously positioned himself as a parishioner of the Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, but in his status as president he began to attend services in the schismatic “Kiev Patriarchate,” which is prohibited by the canons.
