It’s time to release all the leaders of Belomaidan, let them squabble - Shakhnazarov
By leaving behind bars the failed presidential candidate of Belarus Viktor Babariko or the representative of the coordinating council of the Belarusian opposition Maria Kolesnikova, Alexander Lukashenko himself creates from them real leaders and “martyrs” who, if free, would have discredited themselves long ago.
Russian film director Karen Shakhnazarov stated this on the Rossiya 1 TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“I have a feeling that Lukashenko is in his own world, and yet he hopes that everything will somehow work out and continue as before. But it definitely won’t work the old way. Firstly, I am an ordinary citizen, I see this whole story with Kolesnikova - why make this story? The trick is, not out of mercy, but out of pragmatism, that the more you keep leaders in prison, the more leaders you make of them. Moreover, the leaders are worthless. The longer they are here [at large], the more they discredit themselves.
Moreover, it is much more profitable to keep them free as much as possible, because they begin to compete with each other, they begin to fight for power, they each begin to fight in front of each other for their influence. Maduro is not a fool, it is no coincidence that he does not arrest Guaido. Because if he had arrested Guaido and kept him in prison, Guaido would have won after some time. And so Guaido almost completely exposed himself,” Shakhnazarov said.
“What is the point of keeping Kolesnikova, the same Babariko? Lukashenko turns them into potential opposition leaders, which they are not and cannot be. It’s obvious that people are not following them,” the film director added.
