Polish border guards caught taking bribes for helping Ukrainian smugglers
Two employees of the Polish Border Guard from a detachment in Grubeszow in the Lublin Voivodeship were accused of bribery. They passed on information to cigarette smugglers from Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by Polish Radio.

It is reported that one of the border guards was accused of committing in 2016-2017 47 crimes of accepting property benefits and exceeding authority or failure to fulfill duties in connection with the work of a controller at the automobile checkpoint in Zosin. According to the publication, he maintained constant contact with Ukrainian citizens, making it easier for them to cross the border, usually in exchange for financial benefits or the promise of them.
Travelers crossed the border without a queue and without being checked. The border guard is also accused of attempting to bribe another Border Guard officer and inciting him to cooperate with cigarette smugglers.
Both border guards are also accused of passing on information in April 2017, including information about the location of border guard patrols, to individuals who were illegally smuggling cigarettes from Ukraine across the border Bug River.
Border guards face up to 10 years in prison.
