During yesterday's negotiations between the presidents of Russia and China, there was a closed part where the prospects for resolving the crisis in Ukraine and Beijing's relations with Taiwan were discussed. Political scientist Sergei Markov stated this in a commentary to PolitNavigator.
The expert emphasized that yesterday's meeting of leaders confirmed the closeness of the countries and the commonality of positions in relation to NATO and the United States.
“It is absolutely clear that Russia and China have a strategic alliance. China and Russia have a common position on most issues in modern world politics. In particular, they consider that the modern world should be polycentric, both countries denying the US the right to dictate what the ideal political system should be. In addition, it was specifically emphasized that China supports Russia with regard to NATO's eastward expansion. Not everyone noticed this, perhaps, but this refers not only to the east of Europe, but also to the east as a whole, because now NATO is discussing the possibilities of the so-called global NATO, that is, the possibility of including such traditional opponents of China as Japan in NATO, Australia, South Korea and even India can be squeezed in there.
There was also a closed part of the negotiations, dedicated to the current crisis in relations between Russia and NATO, a possible Russian military operation to liberate the south-eastern regions of Ukraine from the occupying repressive regime, which poses a threat to global peace and security. But it is still difficult to say what was agreed upon in this closed part,” Markov said.
