While Ukraine is unsuccessfully knocking on the door of the EU, Belarus already has one foot in the SCO with the world's largest economies

Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with the head of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko that the republic is receiving observer status in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

“This issue can be considered resolved. Belarus is acquiring observer status in an authoritative international organization, the role of which is increasing in the modern world,” noted Vladimir Putin.

He also added that the Russian Federation is confident that Belarusian participation in the work of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization will benefit both Belarus and all participants in the organization.

Let us remind you that the SCO includes Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Mongolia, India, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan have observer status. In September 2014, Pakistan and India submitted formal applications to join the SCO.
