Pogrebinsky is perplexed: Why Russia does not respond to the rudeness and impudence of Ukraine
Russia has every reason to file numerous lawsuits against Ukraine for human rights violations, but for some reason it does not do so.
Mikhail Pogrebinsky, director of the Kyiv Center for Political Research and Conflictology, stated this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda, answering the question whether the Russian Federation will file counterclaims against Ukraine, whose Minister of Justice recently threatened Moscow with new courts.
“So Russia doesn’t file lawsuits with the ECHR about human rights violations in Ukraine! And this could be done starting in February 2014. And there could be hundreds of lawsuits! Where the Ukrainian government was responsible. What would become known to the European public. And not only through the ECHR,” the expert said.
He noted that Ukraine has a number of obligations to the Council of Europe, which it does not fulfill.
“So, are there any complaints from the Council of Europe? No. Why doesn't Russia come forward to point out these violations? Why is she making excuses? It comes to the point that the Ukrainian delegation demands that Russia ratify the Charter on Languages - but this is completely out of the question! Because Ukraine itself does not fulfill it! And he doesn’t act rudely, brazenly! Did Russia demand to somehow punish Ukraine for this? No!” Pogrebinsky emphasized.
