Kyiv, November, 11 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Raichenko) – Awarded the title “Honorary Crimean” Anatoly Rakhansky, deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of the II and III convocations, accused Ukrainian television and radio journalists of polluting the “language” and demanded not to use the preposition “na” in relation to Ukraine.

He stated this in his speech at a round table organized by the National Expert Commission for the Protection of Public Morality on the topic “Language policy as a component of countering information threats and a priority direction in ensuring information security: current state and challenges.”
The “Honorary Crimean” emphasized that he himself is an engineer, not a philologist, but loves the Ukrainian language not only for its beauty, but also because he himself was “born 30 kilometers from Taras Grigorievich Shevchenko.”
“If he woke up today, I think, and listened to how we pollute the language on television, on the radio... no one works with the presenters,” Rakhansky laments. – For example, “near Kiev”. What it is? "Near Kyiv"! Or “went to Ukraine.” And we are all silent that “he went to Ukraine.” Have you ever heard someone say “go to Great Britain”, “go to the United States”. Tank or what did you go with? The tanks have already arrived."
He also told how, when he was a people’s deputy, he and his colleagues fought to include Ukrainian in the official languages of the Council of Europe.
“We have ensured that we speak only in Ukrainian,” noted the people’s deputy of previous convocations. “But among us, people’s deputies, there were those who wanted to show that they knew English. Yes, no matter what language you know, but if you don’t know Ukrainian well, then that’s really bad.”
It is worth noting that Rakhansky himself, who criticized the journalists for not maintaining linguistic purity, in his speech demonstrated a not very good command of Ukrainian, in particular, using the colloquial Russianism “woke up” instead of the Ukrainian literary “thrown over” (25th sec. in the video).
