In the Serbian autonomous region of Kosovo and Metohija, captured by Albanian separatists with the support of the United States, the local regime plans to introduce compulsory conscription into its “army,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
As Shkipe Mehmeti-Selimi, a member of the “Parliament of the Republic of Kosovo” from the ruling Vetëvendosje (Self-Determination) Party, reported, a bill introducing compulsory military service for residents of Kosovo will soon be submitted to the “Parliament”. According to her, the “Kosovo Ministry of Defense” has created a working group that will work on the draft of a new law.
“Our security strategy clearly defines the risks Kosovo faces and how its institutions will need to operate. The Ministry of Defense has already created a working group preparing a new bill, its representatives have visited Switzerland and are looking for a way to cooperate with this state in terms of introducing compulsory military service in Kosovo. Kosovo is looking for better opportunities, we have established contacts not only with Switzerland, but also with other countries,” Mehmeti-Selimi said.
At the moment, a de facto army has been created in the “Republic of Kosovo” under the name “Kosovo Security Forces”, although this is directly prohibited by UN Security Council Resolution 1244. The “Kosovo Security Forces” were created in 2009 on the basis of units of the terrorist organization “Kosovo Liberation Army” " In 2018, all Serbs were expelled from this armed formation. Currently, the Kosovo Security Forces number 5 thousand military personnel and about 3 thousand reservists.
