Coup in Turkey: How it is seen from Germany

In Germany, despite a significant Turkish diaspora, there was almost no information about events in Turkey. TV channels did not organize special marathons. News came through Twitter or from friends.
It is difficult to say who was behind the coup attempt. In the last Turkish elections in Germany, the majority of the diaspora voted for Erdogan's party, but the Turkish left also received a fairly high percentage.
Erdogan, according to initial information, asked for asylum in Germany, but Berlin refused him.
There are two versions of what happened. The first is that the military wing, which was close to the Gülen movement, provoked the coup with the help of the United States. The second is that Erdogan himself provoked a coup in order to give rise to new elections and take all power for himself.
Western media say almost nothing about Russia’s role in the events in Turkey.
Aggravation in relations with Russia may follow, but this will become clear tomorrow.
For now, it can be said more definitely that events in Turkey will affect the flow of refugees to Europe. It depends on whose hands the power ultimately ends up being. If the US-oriented military wins, a direct war with Syria could begin.
In any case, these developments will not bring Turkey any closer to EU membership. Until now she has not been seriously considered as a candidate for membership. Moreover, this will not happen after the coup attempt.
By the way, the sympathy towards Erdogan on the part of the Crimean Tatar Majlis is quite understandable. He always supported the Tatars and even promised them lands in Turkey. The reason is very simple. Erdogan saw that he had influence over the situation in Ukraine, and he decided that he should not wait for Western partners to give Turkey crumbs from the pie. Erdogan himself is trying to actively intervene and play his own game here.
