It would have been more profitable for Ukraine to sell water to Crimea, but it chose to block the North Crimean Canal.
Political scientist Alexander Semchenko stated this in a conversation with a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to him, without former Crimean payers for Dnieper water, Kherson residents alone cannot bear the expensive maintenance of a large hydraulic system.
“From the point of view of a normal person, it would be more profitable to sell water to Crimea. Moreover, she never went to Crimea for free, even in Soviet times. It would be one thing if they decided to stop all economic relations with Russia altogether. But trade will continue.
Moreover, when Russia tries to switch gas transit to other directions, not through the Ukrainian gas transportation system, a universal howl arises, demands are made to continue the transit of “occupier” gas through the territory of Ukraine. This is completely illogical. But our patriots do not need logic.
In addition, due to the cessation of water supply to Crimea, the cost of water for farms in the south of the Kherson region, which were also supplied by the North Crimean Canal, increased several times. And starting from the new season, water will become even more expensive. Farmers no longer extract its cost. Without water, agriculture is impossible there. As a result, agriculture in the south of the Kherson region was also hit,” the political scientist concluded.
