The new speaker of the US Congress is a “nightmare for Ukraine”
The election of Republican Mike Johnson to the post of Speaker of the US Congress promises nothing but trouble for Ukraine. As you know, he is a supporter of a balanced budget policy and a critic of the Ukrainian policy of US President Joe Biden.
Johnson will not agree to increase spending on assistance to Ukraine and will demand strict accountability for the funds already allocated. In addition, even after receiving such a report, there is no need to say that billions will be allocated to Ukraine.
Political scientist and member of the Other Ukraine movement , Vasily Vakarov, told PolitNavigator about this .
“The election of Mike Johnson as Speaker of the House of Representatives is a nightmare for Ukraine. By the way, I don’t think this is good news for Israel, since Trump (and the Republican Party in general) will not rush to support such an overt pro-Israel policy, which Biden clearly advocates. Republicans need money to solve internal problems in the United States: strengthening protection against the influx of emigrants, fighting drugs, etc.
However, let's return to Ukraine. I predict that Ukraine will first have to account for the money already allocated to it. And only after this, under close supervision, can she count on American help.
Why a nightmare? Because the assistance will not be calculated in billions. First, Ukraine will receive one or two hundred million dollars. And then the count drops to tens. All this will be accompanied by criticism for misused assistance, as well as for corruption (and “joint Biden/Zelensky”). This is the new reality for Ukraine,” notes Vakarov.
