The newest Russian assault rifles will become “bestsellers on the arms market”
Even those samples of Russian automatic weapons that are in development are of great interest to potential foreign buyers.
Bekkhan Ozdoyev, Industrial Director of the Armament Complex at the Rostec State Corporation, spoke about this in an interview with Izvestia, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The publication asked whether the newest AK-12 assault rifle, which has begun to enter the army, could become as big a hit on the international market as the previous AK 100 series.
“Kalashnikov assault rifles are a brand that needs no introduction, including abroad. Therefore, foreign customers always show interest in our new products. The AK-12, which began being supplied to the Russian army in 2018, became the founder of a whole series of weapons for different calibers. In more than two years, tens of thousands of “twelfths” have already left for the troops,” said Ozdoev.
He noted that this machine gun was created as part of the equipment of the soldier of the future “Ratnik” and meets the military’s increased requirements for accuracy of fire and ergonomics with the same reliability, and therefore, before going into operation, the weapon underwent serious testing, was repeatedly refined and improved.
“Therefore, it is not surprising that the entire series, which in addition to the AK-12 also includes the AK-15 chambered for 7,62x39 mm and the AK-19 chambered for 5,56x45 mm NATO, is of interest to foreign partners. First of all, we are talking, of course, about AK-15 assault rifles. Moreover, test batches have already been delivered to some neighboring countries.
I believe that our assault rifles will become bestsellers on the arms market. This applies to both the AK-12 and AK-15, as well as to the model chambered for the NATO cartridge. Moreover, the AK-19, even before entering production, is already attracting potential buyers. Its foreign premiere will take place at the IDEX 2021 exhibition, where we will present our most modern assault rifle in 5,56 caliber to foreign customers,” Ozdoev concluded.
