This was stated at a press conference in Kyiv by the director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management Ruslan Bortnik, who assessed the scandalous statement of the Minister of Culture Yevgeny Nishchuk, who said that residents of the south-eastern regions lack genetics.
“He is poorly educated, unintelligent, and sincerely actually hates democracy and its principles, trying to use them as a path to European offices. A man who simply said what was inside him, without filtering the market. Even if we throw out the word “genetics,” his speech is still absolutely discriminatory. The person does not understand anything about biology. not in history,” the political scientist emphasized.
He said that his institute specifically raised the results of the population census in the Russian Empire for 1897 and compared it with data from the late USSR.
“According to the results of this census, Ukrainians were a very weak majority only in Poltava of all the cities of Ukraine. In all other cities, including Kyiv, Ukrainians were a minority. And in Western Ukraine, including Nishchuka’s native Frankivsk, they were a very small minority - up to 20 percent in large cities. If we talk about who brought whom and where, then it was the Soviet Union, if you look at the 1989 census, that created the conditions under which Ukrainians became the overwhelming majority in the cities,” Bortnyk said.
