“I haven’t learned anything” – fugitive Russian liberal criticizes Zelensky
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has forgotten all his election promises and, flaunting the unique history of his election, remains defiantly silent when mass protests take place in Belarus.
This was stated in an interview with journalist Dmitry Gordon by Andrei Illarionov, a former adviser to the Russian president who fled to the United States and is now a fierce critic of Putin, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Let's remember what Zelensky said when he was elected. He said: “Look, peoples of post-Soviet states, you can do this too.”
Now there is a revolution taking place in Belarus, what is Zelensky’s position in relation to the neighboring fraternal people? Dead silence, which in diplomacy is called demonstrative silence,” Illarionov said.
The economist was also indignant that Zelensky does not fulfill any of his promises that he made before and after his election to the post of President of Ukraine.
“Let's not talk about other countries, let's talk about Ukraine. Zelensky promised in the spring of 2019 that he would conduct a population census, where is it? He promised to hold it back in 2019, or at least in 2020. 2020 is ending, but there is no census. We don’t even know how many of us there are in Ukraine, how many people live here, where are these promises? Nobody pulled Zelensky’s tongue; he said so himself.
We see time after time that the promises made by Zelensky, which people believed, have not been fulfilled. He said: “Spring will come, we will plant.” Who is imprisoned?” the liberal lamented.
He added that he sees no signs that Zelensky has learned anything.
“In June 2019, someone asked me: how much time are you giving Zelensky? I answered: at the beginning he will make mistakes - this is natural, for seven months he will make continuous mistakes, but I hope that during this time he will learn at least the basic lessons of government activity and then, after these seven months, it will be possible to draw conclusions.
Now 15 months have passed, do we see any signs that he has learned anything? I don’t see a single sign,” Illarionov summed up.
