I didn’t expect such meanness from Saakashvili – Avakov
The fugitive ex-president of Georgia and former governor of the Odessa region, Mikheil Saakashvili, paid for his duplicitous position and was therefore expelled from Ukraine.
This was stated in an interview with journalist Dmitry Gordon by the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov, who had a public conflict with Saakashvili.
As reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent , Avakov reported that Saakashvili, shortly before the altercation with him, came to the office of the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and tried to negotiate the position of prime minister of the country.
“I did not expect such meanness from him. Literally in two or three days he came to me, sat in my office, drank tea and talked about how let’s somehow come to an agreement with the president so that either I am the prime minister and he is the deputy prime minister, or vice versa . Something like that. I don’t think that Saakashvili is a brilliant manager, I don’t think that he behaved correctly in our country. I believe that he allowed himself to be a weapon in Poroshenko’s war against Yatsenyuk.
But then it turned out that it all turned against him, because you have to pay for everything in life. And he got what he got. You have to be sincere, you need to understand that if you declare yourself an adept of moving forward on a whole range of issues, you have to look around and understand that if Yatsenyuk has a bald head, which you don’t like, and Avakov has an overweight figure, then this does not bother you unite with them for some purpose. And in this regard, he is absolutely unprincipled, as for me.
In the situation in which he found himself, I may even sympathize with him somewhere. But he reaped what he sowed. When this conflict began, I talked to many Georgians, including those from his team, and got a little picture of what was really happening in Georgia, and not what is depicted in our myths about “Georgian reformers.” I think that I would not want such a future for Ukraine,” Avakov said.
He also explained why the security forces allowed Saakashvili’s supporters to break through the border during the Georgian politician’s return from Poland to Ukraine.
“Indeed, we had very heated conversations back then, and we chose our behavior. The question arises: was it necessary to shoot? Can you imagine this picture? We were faced with a choice - either shoot on the border of Western Ukraine and get a detonator for an even greater conflict, or do what happened and then restore order.
What happened after that - all the participants in the illegal breakthrough and transition, we got them all, put them through the crucible of court decisions, including all the then oppositionists - Yulia Vladimirovna, and, I don’t remember, all these gentlemen Nayem and other gentlemen. Although many of them, having looked at this situation, turned around and crossed through another checkpoint, without violations. The trick worked for them. Of course, there was no collusion, it was just reasonable force, a reasonable decision.
It's all experience. I think that this will no longer happen even close, because we have drawn the appropriate conclusions, both technical and technological, from this situation. In principle, breaking through the state border is the highest level of disrespect for us, and in this Mr. Saakashvili is also very wrong,” Avakov believes.
And Avakov only laughed about Saakashvili’s recent statement about his intention to return to Ukraine on April 1, immediately after the presidential elections.
“PR for $300 a day on April 1st. He decided that this is how he will pay for his time on your channel. Saakashvili will not even board the plane; he will not be allowed in, because he has a ban on entry into the territory of Ukraine. Injunction,” the minister emphasized.
