NATO has created a dangerous situation on the border with Russia
The large-scale NATO exercise “Trident Juncture” in Norway is a dangerous provocation directed against the Russian Federation.
This opinion was expressed on the air of the Rossiya 1 television channel by Alexei Zhuravlev, a member of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“They do not hide that this is directed against Russia, and that Russia is the “aggressor.” They allowed themselves to do this before, but they didn’t talk about it, but now they talk openly. This is a reflection on our Vostok 2018 exercises. But, firstly, we never said that the United States is some kind of aggressive state, and secondly, we did not conduct them near America. Let them conduct it in the USA, go to Colorado, conduct exercises there, and no one will tell them anything. And if they are held 200 kilometers from our border, we are doing the right thing by releasing our Northern Fleet, conducting exercises, closing the water area and launching missiles. What are the options? Exercises are exercises, but the concentration of a group of troops, and such a serious one, is unsafe,” he said.
However, Russian military expert Vladislav Shurygin assured that the Russian army is ready for possible external aggression and these exercises do not pose a real threat to Russia.
“These exercises are certainly directed in one direction and have always been directed there. How to react to this? We react completely calmly. Over the past 4-5 years, we have undergone major changes in our Armed Forces structures. We are looking at this very carefully, but it does not pose any real threat to us,” he said.
As a reminder, PolitNavigator previously cited a statement by Yakov Kedmi, former head of the Israeli intelligence agency Nativ, that German Chancellor Angela Merkel's resignation as party leader and her impending resignation signifies a death sentence for the European Union, given the breakdown in US-NATO relations.
