An IMF mission is coming to Ukraine - gas prices will rise again
A mission of the International Monetary Fund will visit Ukraine from September 6 to 19 to discuss economic policy issues and the provision of financial assistance with the country’s leadership, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated in a statement by the head of the IMF representative office in Ukraine, Goesta Ljungman, published today on the fund’s website.
“At the request of the Ukrainian authorities, an IMF mission will visit Kyiv from September 6 to 19 to discuss recent developments and economic policies,” Josta Ljungman said. “The mission will also discuss next steps, including financial assistance from the IMF in support of policies aimed at ensuring macroeconomic stability and sustainable and inclusive growth.”
The latest memorandum of cooperation between Ukraine and the IMF was signed in March 2015. Over the course of four years, the fund was supposed to allocate $17,5 billion to Ukraine. As part of this program, the government received four tranches totaling $8,7 billion. The last of them was on April 5, 2017 in the amount of $1 billion.
And about. Finance Minister Oksana Markarova announced on June 11 that Ukraine could receive the next tranche this fall. Kyiv expects to receive about $2 billion. At the same time, the IMF insists on increasing gas prices for the population, which, according to various estimates, could range from 30% to 60%.
