Russian TV recalled Akhmetov’s role in legalizing the coup in Ukraine
Kyiv, February 23 (PolitNavigator, Maxim Karpenko) – A year ago, the Party of Regions helped legitimize the coup in Ukraine by taking part in the work of the Verkhovna Rada after the victory of the Maidan and the flight of President Yanukovych from the country. Historian Nikolai Starikov stated this on the Sunday Evening talk show.

According to him, if this had not happened, events in Ukraine could have changed dramatically.
“When everyone told you that the country was heading towards civil war, you said that we need to take part in the work of the Rada, that we need to pass a few more laws, we will now convince the Nazis. If you had not gone to the Rada, if you had not legalized the coup d’etat, everything in Ukraine would have been different. People like you have given the junta the opportunity to assume the garb of defenders of Ukrainian statehood,” said Starikov, addressing ex-People’s Deputy from the Party of Regions Nikolai Levchenko, who is considered the right hand of the Ukrainian oligarch Rinat Akhmetov.
