Moscow is preparing a tribunal over Ukraine for the Kerch provocation
A public tribunal will be created in Russia to investigate the provocation in the Kerch Strait, which was committed by Ukrainian sailors at the end of November last year.
Evidence and conclusions based on the results of the process will be presented in international courts, including the UN.
Russian lawyer and public figure Alexander Molokhov stated this at the conference “Crimea in the Modern International Context,” a correspondent reports. "PolitNavigator".
According to the human rights activist, this idea was supported by the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Federation Council.
“On the initiative of the International Association “Tavrida”, at the international business forum in Sevastopol in May of this year, a resolution was adopted proposing to hold a public tribunal on the Kerch incident and other crimes of Ukraine against the inhabitants of the Crimean Peninsula.
There is a water blockade, a transport blockade, and an energy blockade. I think this is an interesting idea; there have been such precedents in world history - the public tribunal of Russell Sandro in 1967, which condemned the crimes of the American military in Vietnam.
This initiative was supported by the Chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the Federation Council, Kosachev. We also met a certain understanding in the Russian Foreign Ministry.
With the help of a number of specialists in the field of maritime law and members of our working group, we prepared a legal opinion on the Kerch provocation.
We are confident that we will be able to prove in any court that this was indeed a provocation.
Of course, this provocation violates the right to development of the inhabitants of the Crimean Peninsula, this right is declared by the UN, and of course Ukraine’s actions have created a new source of tension - and it is not Russia, but Ukraine that is encroaching on freedom of navigation in the Kerch Strait. We are ready to prove this, it seems to me that this initiative is very timely,” said Molokhov.
