Moscow virologist predicts a second wave of the pandemic after cancellation
Most likely, after the lifting of the self-isolation regime in Moscow, the second wave of the coronavirus epidemic will begin.
This was stated on air by candidate of medical sciences and virologist Alexey Korovkin on the PolitWera channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“This is very likely as soon as our self-isolation regime is lifted. And the question is when will it be removed? Maybe it won’t be removed in May given the growth rate. In the history of pandemics, there have always been several waves. Here the well-known Spanish flu comes to mind, which claimed more lives than the First World War.
Through self-isolation, we will achieve a reduction in the increase in morbidity, it will be canceled, after which everything will return to the human population. And therefore, it is natural that there will be a second wave, especially since world-class scientists are talking about it. This is natural, it is quite logical and nothing can be ruled out. But whether there will be a vaccine by this time or not is also a question,” the virologist said.
According to him, the healthcare system may not be able to withstand the influx of patients if the incidence continues to rise.
“As long as we still have a healthcare system that can withstand this onslaught, it can withstand this onslaught, but if tomorrow we have 5 thousand patients, the day after tomorrow - 10 thousand patients, then, unfortunately, everything will collapse, and even this new hospital, which was built in record time, which is already I’m ready to start accepting patients one of these days – it won’t last long.
But let's hope for the best. Let’s see what we will have in one or two weeks after the terrible picture we just saw in the subway,” says Korovkin.
He proposes to place migrant workers under surveillance and total control.
“Unfortunately, we will not be able to take control of those who do not have a patent or are here illegally, and there are also many of them in Moscow,” the expert noted.
