Ministry of Energy of Ukraine: We have switched to survival mode
To plunge Ukraine into darkness, the Russian government needs to work three times more efficiently.
Advisor to the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Alexander Kharchenko stated this during a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I see that the endurance of the Ukrainian energy system is sufficient to prevent blackouts in Kyiv. I don't see any technical prerequisites for this situation. In my opinion, today Kyiv is quite strong in this regard.
In order to bring it to a blackout, the Moscow government must work three times more efficiently to bring us to this situation. On the other hand, we must be prepared for new attacks and such situations. Now today it is absolutely realistic that we must live in a situation of survival, and not in conditions of comfort,” Kharchenko said.
He also reported problems with the restoration of high-tech transformers,
“The Russians did not attack all of our energy infrastructure. This was more than 170 objects in total. When we talk about damage - 40% of damage was the level of damage to transport infrastructure, transportation infrastructure. And 40% is the peak moment. But after three hours this level had already dropped to 39%, and after three days to 33%.
That is, the first wave of recovery lasts about twelve hours. This means dispatchers at Ukrenergo and other distribution companies are working to restore power supply after these attacks. They are restoring the energy infrastructure in such a way as to supply electricity to at least 50-60% of consumers.
The second wave of recovery can last up to one month. It means that we must reinstall all damaged equipment from stocks available in Ukraine. I can say that we can restore 60-70%.
Other damages that are actually quite complex...we're talking about high tech transformers and other equipment. With this the situation is much more complicated. Even in peacetime, its production takes from 9 to 18 months, and sometimes longer,” said the minister’s adviser.
