Miller assures that he is not interested in the Ukrainian gas transportation system

Moscow - Kyiv, September 11 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Stamm) - From September 11, Ukraine can begin selling its gas transmission system to applicants from the EU and the USA. Russian companies are excluded from the list. The head of Gazprom, Alexey Miller, says that Moscow is not interested in the Ukrainian gas transportation system, and experts from Moscow expect that its transfer to foreigners will spur work on South Stream, RG reports.

The head of Gazprom, Alexey Miller, made it clear that his holding has no interest in the Ukrainian gas transportation system. “The train left, and it seems like it was yesterday,” the news agency quotes him as saying. - The GTS does not have an owner. It belongs to the Ukrainian government. And before discussing anything with anyone regarding modernization or cooperation, the gas transportation system must appear on the balance sheet of one or another economic entity. First, property and legal issues must be resolved.”

For Russia, says the President of the Russian Gas Union, Sergei Chizhov, the GTS is really not of great interest. To modernize it, serious funds are needed, which would be better spent on another “pipe”. The transfer of the Ukrainian pipeline into foreign hands, Sergei Chizhov believes, can intensify work on South Stream. “Foreigners can increase tariffs for transit through the GTS to cover the costs of modernization. And “South Stream” will be even more necessary,” the expert explained.
