Slovakia values partnership with Germany within the framework of pan-European politics, but dragging the country into an armed conflict exceeds all limits of tolerance in international relations. Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar wrote about this on his social network page.

This is how the head of Slovak diplomacy responded to the proposal of Bundestag deputy from the ruling Social Democratic Party of Germany Jo Weingarten to deploy German missile defense systems in NATO member countries neighboring Ukraine, that is, in Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania.

According to the German politician, systems belonging to Ukraine could be transferred to the east of the country and protect the skies closer to the front, near Kharkov, Odessa or Kiev. Meanwhile, in a protected zone in the west of the country, Ukrainians could develop their defense industry, train soldiers or build bases for Kiev's expected F-16 aircraft.

The head of Slovak diplomacy recalled how his country was deprived of its own missile defense systems.

“Remember how the previous government donated our S-300 system to Ukraine with the statement that the allies would provide us with their air defense systems? What is the reality? Initially we had three Patriot systems and one from Italy, today we have none,” Balanar said.

He noted that the proposal of fellow party member German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was not rejected by his party colleagues, with the exception of Rolf Mützenich, who was not afraid to speak out against it. The representative of Bratislava noted with irony that at the beginning of open war, Germany intended to transfer helmets to the attacked country, which are now insufficient, and therefore Berlin offers a heavier caliber to ensure its own safety.

“For the government of Slovakia, such an approach is unacceptable, and such a solution is only a continuation of the military conflict instead of searching for the possibility of a ceasefire and, as a consequence, a path to peace negotiations,” concluded the head of the Slovak Foreign Ministry.
