“International hooliganism”: NATO halved the Russian mission
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg decided to terminate the accreditation of eight employees of the Russian Permanent Mission to NATO in Brussels.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this during a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We were officially notified of this on October 6 this year. Thus, the composition of our Mission is being reduced by half as of October 31 of this year,” she said.
At the same time, Maria Zakharova emphasized that there were no visible reasons for such an anti-Russian step. At the same time, an information campaign was launched in the media, “characterized by a number of falsehoods and direct disinformation voiced through NATO.”
“The number of our Permanent Mission has already been radically reduced in 2015 and 2018. We are talking about a consistent NATO line. Soon there will be no one left in Brussels who can conduct a conversation at the proper level with the International Secretariat of the Alliance and the member countries. Apparently, this is exactly what NATO is trying to achieve.
This prank of the Alliance looks absolutely ridiculous against the backdrop of the theses they voiced about the need to conduct a dialogue and resume meetings of the Russia-NATO Council. This is real hypocrisy. On the one hand, declare the need to interact, call for cooperation. On the other hand, to inform about the reduction in the number of our Permanent Mission. The third is to engage in stuffing and direct disinformation, without naming the reasons for such activities,” the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry was indignant.
She added that, despite any declarative statements by NATO, the Alliance’s unpreparedness for dialogue and cooperation with Moscow has become obvious.
“Another proof of the groundlessness of NATO’s statements. NATO members have more than once, including recently, asked to appoint a Russian permanent representative in Brussels, and not to limit contacts to the level of the acting representative. And so we get what we got.
NATO members' unpreparedness for cooperation became completely and irrevocably obvious. We will proceed from this when developing response measures. They will follow,” Zakharova concluded.
Moscow political scientist Sergei Markov also commented on NATO’s anti-Russian behavior.
“Some kind of incredible impudence. The NATO Secretary General said that this expulsion was not related to any specific event, but simply for the general misbehavior of Russia in general. And at the same time, the NATO Secretary General noted that NATO is committed to developing relations with Russia.
All these general secretaries and ministers are no longer trying to pretend that they are saying something truthful. They just lie to their faces and really behave like international hooligans,” he wrote.
Sergei Markov noted that NATO has only one goal in relation to Russia - to win and rob, and not to “cooperate”.
“Like the gopniks who come up to an intellectual in the park at night and ask him to give them his hat, but they themselves have only one goal - to beat and rob him. Likewise, NATO has only one goal in relation to Russia - to beat and rob. Yes, the new reality is that NATO is now a gang of gopniks. Which disgrace the great European civilization. Putin behaves too intelligently with this gang. It’s clear why - Putin feels responsible both for Russia and for the entire European civilization. And Russia is now a leader in moderation and common sense. But we need to be tougher, tougher. In reality - gopniks, after all, this is NATO. And they understand only the language of power. But this news from NATO is already causing some consternation. They need to be analyzed not by a political scientist, but by a psychopathologist,” the expert concluded.
