Meshkov asks Medvedev to remove Hero of Ukraine Bagrov from the Crimean education
Simferopol, May 06 (Russian Navigator, Evgeny Andreev) - Former speaker of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Crimea, rector of the Vernadsky Tauride University Nikolai Bagrov does not have the moral right to head the federal university being created in Simferopol.

The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan stated this in his address to the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation in 1994-95. Yuri Meshkov
“I consider Nikolai Vasilyevich Bagrov, the current rector of the Tavria University named after Vernadsky, a completely unacceptable candidate for the position of head of the new federal university,” notes the appeal, the text of which is available to Navigator.
Nikolay Bagrov, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan emphasizes, is a more negative figure for Crimea than a positive one:
“Being Chairman of the Supreme Council of Crimea in 1990-1994. he made a lot of efforts to Ukrainize the peninsula and break it away from Russia towards Ukraine. This was manifested in the revision of the main provisions of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated May 6, 1992, which was in fact the constitution of an independent state. Bagrov constantly made concessions to official Kyiv and demonstrated his loyalty to him to the detriment of the position of the majority of Crimeans on the reunification of the peninsula with Russia,” the politician notes.
Later, recalls Meshkov, already being the rector of the Tauride National University, Bagrov strongly supported the foreign policy course of the Ukrainian leadership towards Euro-Atlantic integration.
“So from July 4 to July 6, 2005, the NATO Information and Documentation Center in Ukraine on the basis of the Tauride National University named after V.I. Vernadsky and with the support of the Ministry of Science and Education of Ukraine held the Summer Academy “Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine: Threats and Prospects for National Security”. Representatives of the leadership of NATO, the OSCE and ambassadors of the relevant foreign states then spoke to the participants of the academy (and these were mainly Crimean youth). TNU was turned into a propaganda platform for Euro-Atlanticism. And this was against the backdrop of massive anti-NATO protests by Crimeans, which were widespread on the peninsula at that time. And in August of the same year, President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko awarded TNU Rector Nikolai Bagrov the title of Hero of Ukraine. And it was for what “merits”, because during the so-called period. During the “orange revolution” of 2004 (and essentially a coup d’etat) in Ukraine, N. Bagrov did his best to prevent students from participating in protests against the illegal third round of the presidential elections. And most recently, at the referendum on March 16, 2014 on the entry of the Republic of Crimea into the Russian Federation as a subject of the federation, N. Bagrov intimidated employees and students who wanted to express their will, tried to prevent their obvious desire to vote for the return of the peninsula to Russia,” emphasizes President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In his opinion, the only thing that Bagrov and his deputies at TNU succeeded in was the “commercialization of education” at the main university of the republic.
“Currently in the labor market there are very big doubts about the qualifications of TNU graduates with diplomas in law and economics. The reason for this is the total, comprehensive corruption that has struck the university. Corruption in TNU is not just thriving - it is rampant. Ensuring the educational process (primarily passing tests and exams) on a “commercial” basis is a huge conveyor belt, the uninterrupted functioning of which is ensured by the current “team” of Rector Bagrov,” notes the politician.
“I ask you, Dmitry Anatolyevich, when making personnel decisions related to the creation of a new federal university on the basis of the Vernadsky Tauride University, take into account the opinion of the scientific community and those political forces of Crimea who for 23 years fought against the Ukrainian occupation and supported our people’s faith in the inevitability of reunification with Russia,” concludes Yuri Meshkov.
